This week (09 to 01/01), quotations had a significant increase in the producing region of São Gotardo (MG). “Dirty” carrots were sold at an average of R$ 50.00/box of 29 kg, an increase of 25% compared to the previous week. The appreciation, which has been occurring since the last week of December, is justified by the low supply, a reflection of the constant rains in the region. With the high rainfall, producers with lower technological level are unable to harvest, while those with more technology guarantee the harvest, even facing difficulties.
In addition, the rains reached roots that were in their first stage of growth, which worries producers about their future development and possible discards of production during the summer harvest. According to collaborators from Hortifruti/Cepea, even with the unfavorable weather conditions, the diseases are under control, due to the treatment for mela control, ensuring good quality. For the next few weeks, the rains should continue to worry producers and supply could drop even further, reflecting positively on prices.
